ASTRIX HELMET

A bike helmet made perfect by you.
This project explored using AI tools as a way to enhance a designer’s creative output rather than replace it. The assignment started with an initial, vague, prompt and was expanded from there via brainstorming conversations with AI models. The usual ideas generated by AI models were then elaborated and expanded on into a full project.

Initial Prompt
“A helmet with an adaptive cooling system and immersive spatial audio for cyclists and runners. Smart fans adjust airflow based on body temperature, while built-in speakers provide real-time navigation and training insights”

AI Assisted Brainstorming (Summarized)

“Hey, can you help me come up with some interesting concepts from products based on this description. Think outside the box.”

1. Integrated Biometrics and Health Feedback
2. Augmented Reality (AR) and Visual Integration
3. Environmental and Adaptive Context Sensing
4. Personalization and Adaptive Comfort
5. Social and Competitive Features
6. Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
7. Beyond Safety: Lifestyle and Wellness

“How would we integrate these features while keeping weight down. Batteries, speakers, and other electronics can get heavy and we don’t want all that weight on a users head.”

1. Material Selection and Structural Design
2. Compact and Integrated Electronics
3. Innovative Power Solutions
4. Acoustic and Cooling System Innovations
5. Ergonomic and Modular Considerations
6. Prototyping and Iterative Testing

Initial concept sketches

The use of various modules allows the user to customize their helmet to suit their needs. A combo such as a Cooling Unit, Areo Fins, and Visor would suit a ride where speed is the focus. Conversely a Solar Wing, POV Camera, and Microphone might suit a content creation ride best.
